Permanent outdoor lights can give your home a soft evening glow, then switch to holiday colors without another trip up a ladder. They should also look tidy in daylight and have a repair plan.
This guide compares 10 permanent outdoor lighting options for Austin and Central Texas homes, covering fitted channel systems and consumer kits.
Gemstone is our strongest documented fit for concealed track and dedicated warm white. JellyFish and Trimlight suit professionally planned rooflines. Govee Pro and eufy E22 offer consumer-kit approaches, while the other options broaden the mounting and control choices.
Installation deserves as much attention as the brand. A track can hide wires, but mounting, power equipment, weather-resistant connections, and service access also matter.
Temperature limits can rule out an otherwise appealing system. In particular, Nanoleaf's published 104°F operating ceiling needs close attention for a Central Texas installation. [23]

How we rated these systems: These are research-based editorial fit scores, not hands-on tests, customer-review averages, or measured reliability ratings. We considered daytime appearance, everyday white light, controls, service and support, and installation flexibility. A 5 means exceptional documented fit, a 4 means strong fit with meaningful caveats, and a 3 means conditional fit. Half-points reflect judgment between levels. Ties are intentional. The numbers organize this guide rather than establish a best-to-worst ranking; your priorities and proposed installation can change the order.
What types of permanent outdoor lighting are available
Professional roofline lights in a fitted track
These systems place individual LED nodes or bulbs in a channel fitted beneath the eaves or along an appropriate trim surface. The channel usually matches the house trim and conceals the wiring. Gemstone, JellyFish, and Trimlight offer versions of this approach. Individually controlled lights can create holiday patterns or illuminate selected parts of the home. [1–3]
Consider this category for complex rooflines or a discreet daytime appearance. The quote should identify the track profile and wiring route.
Consumer puck light kits
Kits such as Govee Pro and eufy E22 use connected light modules mounted beneath the eaves. Their lenses create visible pools or scallops of light on the wall. Positioning changes that effect, so a short demonstration on your own siding is valuable. [4–5]
A kit and an installation with concealed wiring are different scopes. Ask whether your quote includes clips, compatible covers or track, extensions, and labor. Aftermarket covers must suit the exact light and preserve the manufacturer's installation requirements.
Linear strips and neon style lighting
Outdoor LED strips provide linear illumination rather than spaced pucks. Diffusers and neon-style products can create a continuous-looking line, while exposed strips may show individual dots. They can suit architectural edges or patio features, but need appropriate channels, weather ratings, power equipment, and approved bends and cuts.
Dedicated downlights and landscape lighting
Soffit downlights, shielded entry lights, and landscape fixtures serve different purposes. Roofline colors can complement these fixtures, but they do not establish that stairs, pathways, or work areas have adequate illumination. If visibility is your main goal, evaluate light where people walk and where tasks happen.

Five systems reviewed in detail
1 Gemstone Lights
Editorial fit rating: 4.5 out of 5. Strong fit for warm-white architectural lighting.
Gemstone combines a color-matched track with individually addressable lights and a dedicated warm-white LED. That is an appealing combination when you expect to use a quiet white-light setting more often than animated colors. Its manufacturer describes multiple track profiles and app-based scheduling. [1]

Figure 1. Gemstone Lights’ manufacturer example shows colored LED points fitted along the underside of a gable, with light washing across the siding. Image: Gemstone Lights. Source: Residential Track Lights — Gemstone Lights. Accessed October 28, 2026.
The tradeoff is reliance on the proposed dealer installation and service arrangement. The current warranty separates lifetime coverage on track lights from 10-year coverage on system parts. “Lifetime” has a defined meaning, registration is required within 30 days, and the manufacturer excludes labor. Get the installer's labor coverage and service charges in writing. [6]
Our assessment: A strong documented match for a discreet, year-round installation. Its higher score reflects the combination of concealed track and dedicated warm white, with warranty conditions preventing an unqualified recommendation.
2 JellyFish Lighting Jelly Lights
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for varied rooflines and spacing choices.
JellyFish publishes several track profiles and light-spacing options, which can help adapt a design to different eaves and desired nighttime appearances. Its Jelly Lights specifications list RGB LEDs, app connectivity, and operation without Wi-Fi. The product page lists five years of parts coverage and one year of labor coverage. [2]

Figure 2. JellyFish Lighting’s manufacturer example shows white eave lighting outlining a home’s entrance and front roofline after dark. Image: JellyFish Lighting. Source: JellyFish Lighting — Permanent Christmas Lights and Outdoor LED Lights. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Its standard lights create white by mixing RGB colors rather than using a dedicated white diode. That does not tell you whether you will like the result on your home. Ask to see the preferred white setting on your actual stone, brick, or siding. [7]
Our assessment: A strong option for a tailored roofline layout. The score reflects installation choices and controls, balanced against the need to evaluate mixed white and confirm the complete installed warranty.
3 Trimlight residential lighting
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for a familiar holiday-light appearance.
Trimlight uses a color-matched channel that hides wiring while its bulbs extend below the channel. The manufacturer offers different bulb types, so a quote should specify the bulb instead of saying only “Trimlight.” Its published FAQ describes RGB-generated white and a warm-white preset. [3]

Figure 3. Trimlight’s daytime close-up shows how its channel follows the roof edge, with individual light points visible underneath the trim. Image: Trimlight. Source: Permanent LED Holiday Lighting — Trimlight. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Trimlight's product warranty relates to the estimated lifespan of covered components, including up to 50,000 hours for residential LEDs. Its dealers must provide at least one year of labor coverage, although individual terms can be longer. Authorized professional installation is necessary for the lifetime product warranty. Read the full coverage conditions. [3, 8–9]
Our assessment: A strong choice to investigate if you prefer visible points of holiday light. Bulb selection, the white-light demonstration, and the local service agreement determine whether it fits your home.
4 Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for a flexible consumer-kit installation.
Govee Pro offers warm and cool white, app controls, and manufacturer-approved cutting and connecting procedures. Those features can help a consumer kit fit a roofline more precisely. [4]

Figure 4. Govee’s manufacturer visualization compares cool and warm white roofline lighting. Wall material and mounting position affect the finished appearance. Image: Govee. Source: Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Plan the power equipment carefully. Govee's current US page rates the light strings IP67 and control box IP65 but identifies the adapter as indoor-use-only. It also flags incompatibilities between the upgraded black H706C and older equipment. Confirm the exact model and revision before ordering extensions or planning a long run. [4]
Govee currently advertises a three-year limited warranty for Permanent Outdoor Lights. [16]
Our assessment: A capable kit for a carefully specified installation. Its score recognizes white-light options and flexibility while accounting for component placement and visible wiring without added covers. A custom track installation is an additional scope.
5 eufy Permanent Outdoor Lights E22
Editorial fit rating: 3.5 out of 5. Strong fit for a compatible eufy setup.
E22 offers RGB lighting plus warm and cool white, app effects, and integration with compatible eufy cameras. For homeowners already using that ecosystem, coordinated lighting may be attractive. Check the specific supported camera rather than assuming every eufy device connects. [5]

Figure 5. eufy’s installation graphic shows adhesive mounting and screw reinforcement for E22 light pucks. Follow the mounting instructions for the exact kit and surface. Image: eufy. Source: eufy Permanent Outdoor Lights E22. Accessed October 28, 2026.
The E22's strings cannot be cut, so your layout must work with its approved sections and extensions. We also found differences between the product page and support material for output, color-temperature range, and temperature limits. Ask for the current manual for your exact kit and clarification on each component's limits. The US warranty policy lists E22 coverage at 24 months. [5, 10–11]
Our assessment: Worth considering for the ecosystem features. Its lower fit score reflects reduced layout flexibility and the extra specification checks needed before installation.
Five additional systems worth comparing
6 Oelo 36V system with Evolution control
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for varied mounting choices.
Oelo offers color-matched metal or acrylic covers and several mounting orientations, which makes it worth investigating for an unusual roof edge or a specific light direction. Its RGB system creates white by mixing colors, so include a white-light demonstration in the design review. Individual lights can be replaced. [19, 31–32] Evolution schedules reside on the server, so confirm behavior during an internet outage. [31]

Figure 6. Oelo’s manufacturer illustration compares acrylic and metal channel styles and example finishes for its 36V lighting system. Illustration: Oelo. Source: Oelo 36V 25mm LEDs. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Warranty length depends on the installer: Oelo lists seven years for its designated authorized dealer tiers and five years for contractor or DIY installations. Covered part-replacement labor applies only in the first year under its terms. [20]
Our assessment: Mounting choices support its score. Confirm the 36V configuration and applicable warranty before comparing bids.
7 EverLights ClickLights RGBW
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for dedicated white and an integrated channel.
EverLights ClickLights combine RGB color with a dedicated white channel and offer outward- or downward-facing installation. Professional and DIY purchasing paths are available. For DIY buyers, the aluminum channel is a separate purchase, so compare the complete materials list. [21]

Figure 7. EverLights’ installation image shows a ClickLights channel held beneath a soffit in a downward-facing orientation. Image: EverLights. Source: How to Install ClickLights: DIY Permanent Lighting Guide — EverLights. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Read the ClickLights warranty schedule carefully: it lists five years for lights installed by EverLights or a third party, versus one year for DIY installations. Power supplies, bridges, and receivers have different terms, and the product warranty excludes labor. [22]
Our assessment: A useful alternative for white lighting in a fitted channel. Confirm the ClickLights hardware and applicable warranty.
8 Nanoleaf Permanent Outdoor Lights
Editorial fit rating: 3 out of 5. Conditional fit because of its temperature ceiling.
Nanoleaf offers dedicated warm and cool white LEDs, Matter over Wi-Fi, and a starter-kit option with cable covers. Those covers may appeal to homeowners who want a coordinated retail package. Its specifications list a maximum of 147 feet or 90 pucks, with trimming reserved for a qualified professional. [23]

Figure 8. Nanoleaf’s exploded product illustration shows the light puck, mounting assembly and cable covers. Specify the Cable Covers kit when comparing the finished daytime appearance. Image: Nanoleaf. Source: Nanoleaf Permanent Outdoor Lights. Accessed October 28, 2026.
The Austin-area caveat is heat: Nanoleaf publishes a maximum operating temperature of 104°F. Do not install or operate it where its temperature limits would be exceeded. Evaluate the actual equipment locations before choosing this system. Its two-year product warranty excludes removal and reinstallation labor. [23–24]
Our assessment: Attractive controls and finishing options, but the temperature limit makes its suitability conditional in Central Texas.
9 Enbrighten VIBE WiFi Eternity Eave Lights
Editorial fit rating: 4 out of 5. Strong fit for adjustable white and serviceable sections.
The 150-foot black kit, SKU 85103, offers adjustable dedicated white lighting alongside color effects. The manufacturer describes replaceable sections and clip-based mounting with cord clips. A concealed custom track is not part of that stated mounting system. [25–26]

Figure 9. Enbrighten’s promotional montage illustrates seasonal colors and everyday white roofline lighting. It appears on the 150-foot black Eternity Eave Lights product page; scenes are manufacturer examples. Image: Enbrighten / Jasco. Customization has limits. The manual permits restricted trimming at the final strand only; cut sections cannot be reconnected, and cutting reduces water-ingress protection. It also prohibits putting the equipment inside soffits, attics, or other enclosed spaces. Confirm the intended cable-management method before installation. The manual provides a limited lifetime replacement warranty. [27]
Our assessment: A useful consumer-kit alternative for a layout that fits its mounting and trimming rules. Distinguish replacement-product coverage from any installer labor agreement.
10 Lumary Permanent Outdoor Lights 3
Editorial fit rating: 3.5 out of 5. Strong fit for homeowners who want additional control options.
Lumary's third-generation system supports a WLED mode that can interest homeowners using Home Assistant, alongside its own app. The manufacturer offers replaceable power supplies and controllers plus optional covers. WLED changes do not synchronize back to the Lumary app, so the extra flexibility also brings setup decisions. [28–29]

Figure 10. Lumary’s manufacturer graphic illustrates Lights 3 control options, including WLED and Home Assistant, alongside a colorful roofline. Check setup requirements before choosing an integration. Image: Lumary. Source: Lumary Permanent Outdoor Lights 3. Accessed October 28, 2026.
Resolve the weather ratings before purchase. The sales page and linked manual disagree; the manual assigns different ratings to the strand, controller, and adapters depending on kit size. The published operating ceiling is 113°F. Direct-site purchases carry a two-year warranty under Lumary's policy. [28–30]
Our assessment: Appealing controls and replacement options, with a lower score reflecting unresolved component documentation.
RGB and white LEDs are different buying decisions
RGB means red, green, and blue LEDs combine to create colors. A system can also blend them to produce a white-looking output. RGBW adds a dedicated white channel. Labels such as RGBWW or RGBCW vary by manufacturer: they may describe warm white, warm and cool white, or another arrangement. Read the actual LED description rather than relying on the abbreviation.
If everyday evening lighting matters, request a demonstration at your preferred brightness. A warm-white setting can look different on white limestone than on red brick. Color temperature, expressed in kelvin, describes whether white appears warmer or cooler; it does not measure brightness. Ask about dimming, visible color consistency, and color rendering if natural-looking materials are important to you.
Are tracks that cover the wires worth including
For many permanent installations, yes. A well-fitted track can conceal cable, keep light spacing consistent, and make the installation look intentional when the lights are off. However, “track included” is not a complete specification.
Ask to see a sample and confirm:
- The material, finish, color match, and profile for your eaves.
- Which wires the track hides, including jumps between roof sections.
- How corners, end caps, joints, and transitions will look.
- How individual lights and connections remain accessible for repair.
- Whether the product manufacturer accepts the proposed mounting method.
A lighting track, decorative wire cover, and electrical conduit are not interchangeable. Do not assume a cosmetic channel is approved to contain household-voltage wiring. The installer should identify what each component is intended to do.
Track placement must also preserve the house. Keep soffit ventilation and drainage paths clear, use appropriate fasteners for the substrate, and address deteriorated trim before attaching new equipment. Ask how the installation accommodates expansion and contraction without trapping water or interfering with gutters and roof flashing.
The components and installation details homeowners should check
Power supply and controller
The power supply converts household electricity to the voltage the lights need. The controller operates colors, zones, and schedules. Their weather and temperature limits may differ from the LEDs. Confirm their locations, ventilation, accessibility, and mounting requirements. If an enclosure is proposed, it must suit the equipment and its heat limits. Putting an indoor-only component in a generic sealed box does not automatically make the assembly suitable outdoors.
Central Texas heat makes this consequential. A shaded location, sun-exposed enclosure, and attic are different environments. Heat can accelerate LED degradation, so check each component's permitted conditions. A strand's temperature rating does not establish the whole system's rating. [17]
Outdoor connections and electrical protection
Connections need approved connectors, seals, and strain relief to keep cable pulls from stressing terminals. Cable entries need suitable fittings, and wall penetrations need appropriate sealing. IP ratings describe dust and water resistance under defined tests; they do not certify an entire improvised assembly.
Have the electrical professional confirm the receptacle, GFCI protection, weather protection, and any new circuit or outlet work required. Extension cords should not become a substitute for a properly planned permanent supply. House Doctors' Texas electrical work is subcontracted to licensed electricians. [12–13]
Jumpers and maximum run length
A jumper crosses an area where you need cable but no lights, such as a gap between roof sections. Long runs may also need a manufacturer-approved driver, additional power supply, or power-injection arrangement. These are system-specific design choices.
Ask for a layout that identifies illuminated footage separately from connecting cable. Confirm maximum run length, allowed extensions, cutting rules, and compatibility before installation. Do not assume that two products with the same plug shape or brand name can connect.
Mounting and the nighttime effect
Mounting position controls how the light reaches the wall. A short sample section helps you evaluate scallops, shadows, glare, and brightness before the entire roofline is installed. Ask for a daylight view too.
For adhesive-mounted kits, surface preparation and the manufacturer's temperature conditions matter. Confirm where approved clips or mechanical fasteners will support the installation. Outdoor cable and mounting materials should suit their UV and weather exposure.
Apps and future service
Ask to see the ordinary tasks you will actually use: an evening white-light schedule, a holiday scene, dimming, and turning selected areas off. Confirm Wi-Fi requirements, what still works during an internet outage, account ownership, and any ongoing fees.
Ask whether a failed light requires replacing a node, a section, or a larger assembly, and who supplies replacements. An LED's rated life does not promise the same lifespan for the whole system; electronics can fail first. Keep the layout, model numbers, and warranty records together. [18]
Austin area HOA rules and nighttime neighbors
Check your HOA's architectural process before installation. Approval for temporary holiday lights does not necessarily cover a permanent track or visible daytime wiring.
Local outdoor-lighting rules also depend on the property's address. Dripping Springs, for example, publishes requirements addressing light direction, output, and warm color temperature. Those rules should not be assumed to apply identically throughout Austin or Central Texas. [14]
Regardless of location, a restrained everyday setting can improve the result. Use only the brightness and hours you need, aim light downward, and keep glare out of neighbors' windows. A colorful holiday scene and a late-night setting can be separate presets. [15]
What should a permanent lighting quote include
Compare the full installed scope, not a boxed-kit price against a dealer's finished project. Ask each provider to identify:
- Exact lighting model and revision, illuminated footage, and coverage areas.
- Track or wire covers, mounting hardware, corners, and connecting cable.
- Controller, power equipment, electrical work, and responsibility for any required permits.
- Access equipment, trim repairs, installation labor, and cleanup.
- App setup, a nighttime demonstration, warranty registration, and service terms.
Roof height, access, complexity, and custom fitting affect labor. Front-only coverage and a complete perimeter are different projects. Request separate prices for optional coverage.
Electricity use is another part of ownership. As a hypothetical calculation, a system drawing 100 watts for 5 hours a night uses 15 kWh over 30 days. At an assumed $0.15 per kWh, that is $2.25. This is an example, not an Austin tariff or a prediction for any brand. Use the actual system draw, schedule, and applicable rate from your bill.
Frequently asked questions about permanent outdoor lights
Can permanent Christmas lights stay up all year
Systems specifically designed for permanent outdoor installation can remain installed when used according to their instructions. Ordinary seasonal string lights are a different product. “Permanent” also does not mean maintenance-free: equipment can need cleaning, adjustment, or replacement.
Do I need dedicated white LEDs
They are worth prioritizing if you want white architectural lighting most evenings. RGB-mixed white may still suit your taste. A demonstration on your home is more useful than assuming a color name in an app guarantees a particular appearance.
Can an installer add track to a kit I already own
Possibly, but the exact model, cover design, mounting surface, and manufacturer requirements need review. A cover must not interfere with cooling, weather seals, light output, or access for repairs. Ask for a written scope before buying additional components.
Does a lifetime warranty cover every repair
Usually the phrase has defined conditions. Parts coverage, installation labor, service visits, registration, and transfer to a new homeowner may have different terms. Read both the manufacturer's warranty and the installer's service agreement. [6, 8]
Can roofline lights replace security or pathway lighting
They may add useful illumination, but their decorative effect does not guarantee adequate visibility at ground level. Evaluate entrances, steps, and walking routes separately, including shadows and glare.
Plan a lighting installation that fits your home
A good lighting project begins with the roofline, power location, and the look you want in daylight and after dark.
